When this website talks about a method to "open a new tab" and I use it, what I get is a new tab that is superimposed over (replaces) an already opened tab. That's not my goal. I'd like to be able to open a new adjacent tab, which I only can do by clicking the + sign at the end of all open tabs. I'd like a shortcut for this.

You can open a new blank tab with the Ctrl+T shortcut key.
