best authenticator add-on

At a high level, two factor authentication works because it adds an additional layer. At it's core is the first layer - the thing that you know, a password. But to make sure that it is you accessing the system, it needs something that you have - a token, a thing, a code.

Using a browser add-on is easy, but it essentially removes the security by putting it all on the laptop. Get access to that, get access to everything.

I would suggest thinking about a mobile app - turning a phone into the thing that you have and acting as a second factor of authentication.

Thanks for your reply Paul. That's good advice as I use Firefox across all platforms and hadn't thought of the security implications of using a browser add-on.

Now I'm unsure of the best app to use.

A bit of an off-topic here, but I'd recommend Aegis on Android, or the built-in password manager on iOS. And whatever you choose, always have backups.
