My laptop crashed. I tried recovering Thunderbird it from a backup. Thunderbird automatically updated to a new version and I can't seem to access my saved previous version where I have my archive of messages and contact addresses. The new version does not have any saved messages or contact addresses. How do I recover my data?

Sometimes Thunderbird creates a new profile, but the old one should still be there. try this:

  1. click help>troubleshootinginformation
  2. scroll down to 'profile folder' and click 'about:profile'
  3. your old profile should appear. see if you can launch it
