Hi David, do you mean in Firefox's password manager?
Some actions may require either the optional Primary Password, if you created one in Firefox, or a system login/PIN code. See: Edit or delete a login with the Firefox Password Manager.
Maybe that is triggering the escalation request (I'm not familiar with what that looks like)?
