open a blocked site I know is safe and have used before

Hi Phil, could you explain in more detail what Firefox is telling you about the site? Is it blocked by the phishing and malware protection (red page), or by some other feature?

If you get a secure connection error, look for a code in ALL_CAPS and paste that into your reply. Sometimes you need to click an Advanced button to access the code.
