You'll have to talk to Yahoo. Thunderbird is your email client, but not your email provider.

I have another account at Yahoo. Seems to be working fine. Some low-life worked out my previous password, and I cannot get in to T'bird right now.

No, it's not. You can request a temporary password here as many times as you want, it won't help you a bit. Also see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-faq#w_what-is-my-thunderbird-email-address

A previous temporary password (sent by Mozilla) was 005196.
But it expired before I was able to use it.
The message I get is :
Login to server mail534.pair.com with username autoscan@autoscan.com.au failed.
So I may need to go to pair.com ?

Well, then I have no idea what you're doing. It certainly has got nothing to do with recovering your Yahoo account password.
