ASK before closing Firefox

Is there a setting that prevents Firefox from closing immediately when the X in the upper right corner is clicked? Thinking a question "Are you sure that you want to close Firefox" should pop up. Recently I've closed Firefox accidentally and lost all of my open tabs (I don't keep history).

In Firefox: Settings > General > Tabs > [v] Confirm before closing multiple tabs https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-configure-close-tab-warnings-firefox

Note if you have two or more Firefox windows then you should use the Firefox menu Quit/Exit so the whole session is saved and not just the last window open by using the X.

... (I don't keep history).

Do you mean you have Firefox set to automatic private browsing mode -- on the Settings page, either:

  • Firefox will: Never remember history
  • Firefox will: Use custom settings for history + "Always use private browsing mode"

I have noticed that Firefox doesn't give me warnings when closing private windows. Not sure if there is a setting for those.

As a workaround, you could try my old add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/prevent-closing-window/
