Did you verify the scanner software can see and find the scanner or printer? Make sure the printer software can also see the printer. As the scanner and printer installs the driver for the Browser to use if it fails the Browser will not see the scanner or printer.
Sounds like the driver might be corrupted or missing. Try uninstalling the printer completely, then reinstall it with the correct driver from the official site. That usually fixes weird issues like this.
