Message composition: Menu is invisible
Since the most recent upgrade automatically pushed to my Ubuntu-like release of Linux, the menu bar of message composition is effectively invisible. If I hover over the bar I can faintly see the selections as white-on-pale-grey. I have not found where in settings to revert whatever was changed. It makes it hard to Send my messages!

Thanks, Dark works. Auto and Light don't. Wonder why it changed?!
Well, I"m not much into hype, but the latest version (128) mentions that the release has themes oriented to Linux (it's somewhere on this page): https://blog.thunderbird.net/2024/07/welcome-to-thunderbird-128-nebula/
From that blog page: "Your Thunderbird should blend seamlessly with your desktop environment, matching the system’s accent colors perfectly."
Nope! The default "System theme - auto" is terrible.
And I don't like Dark. I particularly want a light background when I'm composing because that's how most people will view it. And I have the same issues with Light as described above.
I've tried a couple dozen themes and LUCKY GREEN BAMBOO is acceptable, but still not just right, so if Mozilla doesn't fix this I guess I'll have to design my own theme. 🫤
Designing your own is a good idea. It's not that hard to get a basic color. Just do it.
Looking closer at the theme previews I see they are not being displayed as intended. The text for other tabs, for example, should be black, but they're white until the window is no longer in focus such as when a Compose window is opened. And all of the top elements in the Compose window are way too faded. I suspect this is a bug that probably won't be fixed simply by creating yet another theme.

I found a solution!
First I did a fresh install via the flatpak method in a VirtualBox instance of Ubuntu 22.04 which never had Thunderbird in it before. I saw none of the previously discussed issues and noted it was v128.1.0.
I compared how my laptop was running v128.0.1, not quite up to date despite having just upgraded. Then I read how flatpak upgrades are always the most recent.
The solution (after backing up ~/.thunderbird of course):
sudo apt remove thunderbird flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.Thunderbird
Also had to replace the new ~/.var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/.thunderbird with the old /.thunderbird, then:
flatpak run org.mozilla.Thunderbird --profilemanager
thanks for sharing. Your post reminds me of how little I know about Linux. :)
Thanks everyone for your responses.
