Zero, sometimes passwords can be retrieved using the logins-backup.json file in the Firefox Profile folder. Although this would need to be done sooner rather than later.

Note, I do not use Firefox sync so not sure if there would be any sync-related steps that should be undertaken first, such as temporarily pausing it?

But if sync isn't an issue then you could:

  • Open your Firefox profile folder on your hard drive.
  • Close all Firefox windows.
  • Move logins.json to a backup folder.
  • Copy logins-backup.json to a backup folder.
  • In the profile folder, Rename logins-backup.json to logins.json.
  • Restart Firefox.

Hopefully the missing password will now appear in the passwords manager. You can always exit Firefox and then restore the original two files from the backup afterwards, if you wish.

If you do not know where your Profile folder is, see here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
