Having threads is not very helpful with unread items within that thread. I don't think the developers thought this through. If any one email in a thread was not read it should show the the thread in bold just as emails. Is this a bug or a feature? How can I change that?

You can select view>sort by from menu bar and select unthreaded . If you do not see menu bar, click alt key.
