Just upgraded from 60.x.x. to 102.7.1 (because 60.x.x. is buggy on Monterey)

MAIN QUESTION How can I get rid of the ugly light-brown background in some incoming messages? All I want is a white background in incoming messages (both plain-text and HTML, unless the HTML code asks for a different background).

Thank you (after 10+ years) for finally making the font size adjustable in the folder and message pane. Also for finally fixing not easily being able to get out of numbering when forcing blank lines between numbered paragraphs.

I was actually very happy with version 60.x.x because I had a set of add-ons that working around most of the bugs and had an email client that did what I wanted. With the migration to the new add-ons internals, I lost most every behavior I needed/enjoyed.

In closing, if I can have a default white background/canvas on incoming email messages, I'll stay with T-bird. If not, I'm ready to give up on Thunderbird (after using it for 15 years) and trade it for the the boring stability of Outlook.

I know you are volunteer organization. So thank you for trying so hard for so many years.

(Don't know if logging into Mozilla gives you my email address. I'd prefer not to search for your reply, so I'd really appreciate a link sent to xxxx@gmail.com.

The best to everyone, jeff

When you have issues saving passwords in future, know it is because you made a large version jump that missed the password store conversion in V68. If it does not come back to bite you. Congratulations.

Eventually everyone that resisted past updates will either have to migrate to the latest version or move to another mail client. That you lost addon is unfortunate, I lost them as well, but seriously I have bigger fish to fry than loosing addons I liked.

However as you simply do not mention what they are I can not offer alternatives. Most of the truly useful addon that existed in the past have been recreated with new names, new authors and often new features in the past couple of years.

I don't play with apple products, but in windows I see a white background when the theme used is "light" although more is done with apple I think to try and align with the operating system theme, so you might want to look at whatever is set to that same colour in native apple programs.

This discussion talks about apple transparency changing the background depending on the background behind the windows https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/jmn0fq/dark_windows_change_their_color_from_grey_to/

I would guess you're dealing with an apple "feature" and possibly the only emails you are seeing a white background on are the ones that specify it. The rest get the inherited colour from the Apple OS

Thank you Matt for the most helpful detail and conciseness of your response.

As for passwords, when I couldn't remove the themes I was testing, I simply started over with a new install.

Yes, the "ugly light brown" background problem on some messages was inherited from Apple. Using the "Light" theme that comes with T-Bird as an option apparently solves the problem. Although when adding a theme, I've yet to see a way to delete themes from the list of themes installed other than perhaps, editing a json file somewhere. (Folks did respond and I following instructions, but a theme delete option has yet to appear anywhere in my UI. Such is not a really a problem, since I am unlikely to mess with themes in the future—the point of trying new themes was to solve the non-white background in messages where the background was not spec'd in the HTML code.

re :but a theme delete option has yet to appear anywhere in my UI.

I'm using Windows OS, but this is what I see in : Menu icon > Addons & Themes Select 'Themes' in left pane On the far right of each theme I see a button 'Enable' or 'Disable' To the right of that button, I see a 3 dot icon. When I click on the 3 dot icon, it offers 'Remove' and 'Manage' click on the 'Remove' option to remove the Theme.

On the Mac port there are three horizontal dots. Apparently, if a theme is NOT active, and it's NOT one of the OEM themes, clicking the three horizontal dots produces a list box with a) Manage and b) Remove.

On the Mac OEM themes, only the Manage choice appears. And, BTW, the "Manage" screen only produces info about the theme—there are no buttons on this page to "manage" anything.

Have you selected to use eg: Thunderbird Light or Dark theme and not the System theme ?
