Firefox on MacOS is not saving/using logins and passwords properly.

One: When I add a login in Firefox such as: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/my-account/access.html#a4-2 (which is where I need to get my tax information)

It only saves: https://www.canada.ca (which is useless)

Two: When I add a login in Firefox such as: 192.168.0.1 (which is the address of my router)

I saves all the information but will not offer the actual password, only the login user.

Safari handles all this wonderfully but Firefox is terrible. I only use Firefox so I can use Ublock Original to get rid of the damn adverts from everywhere...

Is there something I'm doing wrong other than following the Firefox prompts to save a password?

The way it works in Firefox is that you save the login for the origin (protocol and hostname) and not for the full path name. If you need multiple logins for a website with the same username and different passwords then this isn't possible with the Firefox Password Manager and you would have to use another Password Manager. Saving a login for an IP address like a router should work provided that the login form is a normal login form with a username input field with type="text" and a password input field with type="password". You can check if you have "Use Saved Login/Password" in the context menu and if necessary you can edit name and password field in the Password Manager (about:logins).

Thanks for the description. I’m disappointed that Firefox works this way. It tells me that there’s no sense in using Firefox to save any passwords. It’s easier to use a password manager that will manage everything and implant the user/password into the appropriate fields within Firefox using an extension.

The other thing I forgot to mention re the IP for my router is either Firefox won’t implant the password or it changes it to be a long sequence of digits and stores that in the login replacing the original password. Bizarre!

Passwords in Firefox have always been a sore point for me.

I should mention the router user/password are both text. Like admin and stumpy
