Restore bookmarks
Due to a massive bug, my computer uninstalled Firefox without warning.
When I installed it back, Sync kept the passwords, which is great, but no bookmarks. Is there a way to get them back?
Thank you for your time

So I have had that happen, and the link below helped.
If you shared you bookmarks across browsers, that may be another way. And if nothing else, hopefully you have a backup or two of your hard drive that you could restore them from.
Hope this helps!
Those are great suggestions! Unfortunately they didn't work- the only backup is from after the forced uninstall and the other profile doesn't have bookmarks either. It's nice to know about it just in case though, thank you!
Can you explain this part in more detail:

Firefox's own uninstaller offers you the option to remove data or leave it on the computer, so it sounds like some other process ran instead.
Computer crashed (badly) and the only option to restart it was to restore it to an earlier stage and uninstall some stuff. It did that on it's own, no questions asked, so I don't know details, only that firefox was no longer there.
I'm assuming it's Windows.
You could go data mining in Windows system restore points to see whether there is a newer one, or maybe an older one even, that has some of your bookmarks. Do not use the actual system restore feature, as that can delete more data.
Windows often makes backup copies of Firefox profile data when you do system updates, so you can use a tool like one of the following programs:
- ShadowExplorer: http://www.shadowexplorer.com/
- Shadow Copy View: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shadow_copy_view.html
Note that you should set Windows to show hidden files and folders before diving in. Either:
- (Windows 10-11) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-97fbc472-c603-9d90-91d0-1166d1d9f4b5
- (Older versions) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files-0320fe58-0117-fd59-6851-9b7f9840fdb2
Then within the most recent restore point shown in the program, you can explore along this path to see whether you can find a shadow copy of your profile:
\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your.profile
If you find a recent bookmarkbackups folder, you can export some backups to your currently live desktop for review or restoration.
- Restore steps: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer (you'll use the Choose File... menu option to grab the file from your desktop)
- Conversion to HTML for viewing: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html
Note that syncing bookmarks can take longer than the logins.
You can install the About Sync extension in Firefox 72 and newer on desktop to check what data is stored on the Sync server via the about:sync page provided by this extension.
Close and restart Firefox to access the about:sync page added by this extension (see the about:about page for possible about pages).
