Hi, I am using Tbird 102.3.0. I just noticed that, for emails I send to a mailing list, no copy of the outgoing message saved. It always used to save one. Is there a setting for this? I suppose I could add my own name to the mailing list but that seems ... clunky. Thanks for any suggestions. Tobias

Please provide more information. Is this a list from your addressbook or what? thanks.

David, Thank you. Sorry. Yes, in my addressbook, I have a list with 10 names/emails. In the inbox window, I will put the name of the list in the 'to' field and it goes to all of the folks in the list. In the past, thunderbird saved a copy of the message in my sent folder. But no longer. Just vanish (as far as I can see). I looked for a setting but could not find anything. Hope that is enough info. Happy to provide more. Thanks. Tobias

Puzzling. That is just a routine email to Thunderbird, nothing special.

David and anyone else. I just did some tests and discovered that Thunderbird does save the message in the sent folder, but it saves them without using the mailinglist name as the 'recipient'. That explains why I could not find the saved messages in my sent folder becuase I was looking for them under the name of the mailing list as recipient. They used to be saved that way. Now the sent message shows up under one of the mailing list recipient's email, with the particular recipient name seemingly chosen at random (not alphabetically, as far as I can tell). Is it possible to have Thunderbird use the 'mailinglist name' as the recipient when it saves messages sent to a mailing list?? That would certainly help me out. Thanks! Tobias

Are you saying the message list pane shows a recipient as the subject? Would you please post a screenshot of that? Thanks.

David, Sorry, no. I don't exactly know how to write about these things. A screen shot is a great idea. The screen shot shows the sent folder (which I renamed). The highlighted message is a message that I sent to a mailing list. In the past, such copies appeared with the name of the mailing list shown in the recipient field. But instead now (as shown) the recipient heading lists all of the emails that are in the mail list (in an odd order). I would prefer to have messages that I send to a mailing list show up under the name of the mailing list. Is that possible (it used to happen). Many thanks. Tobias

What I am requesting is a screenshot of the message list, the pane that lists a single line per message.

David, Apologies, I don't know what you mean by the 'message list'. In the sent folder (the screenshot I attached previously), it does list a single line per message. In case you mean the mailing list, I attach a screenshot of that (but of course there are no messages listed at all). I don't think that is what you mean tho. I am sorry I don't know what the 'message list' is. Thank you. Tobias

I uploaded a screenshot sample, the pane that lists one line per message. Do that for a screen that includes the message you sent to the group.

David, Thank you. I thought that is what I did with the first screenshot I posted (11:17 AM reply, above). The screen indeed shows one line per message, with the message I sent to the group highlighted. Why isn't that first screenshot what you are asking to see? I am sorry that I don't understand. Please excuse my befuddlement here! Tobias

You're right. My error. What I see is that there is no problem. The subject is listed under Subject and the recipients are lised under Recipients. What you described in original post I do not see anywhere. You claimed that Thunderbird is showing recipient as subject, but that doesn't happen. If you have a screenshot that shows this, please do so.

David, Thank you. Sorry that I was not clearer. What I tried to say was that in *previous* versions, Thunderbird would show as the recipient the name of the group list. So, say I made a mailing list with the emails of 20 friends and named that list "MyFriends"; then, a message sent to "MyFriends" would show up in the sent folder, with "My Friends" shown as recipient. In the current version, that is no longer happening. I cannot show you a screenshot. What happens now is this: the message shows up under one of the names of the friends (with the other names listed after). That is what is shown in the screenshot. Yes. What I would like to have happen is for that message to use as the recipient the name of the mailing list. Why was it changed? And is it possible to add a setting so users could choose how they want mailing list messages to be handled? Thank you. Tobias

I am not aware of any way to return the old behavior.

Thank you. That seems like a loss. Do you know how Thunderbird chooses the first name to show? That is in a mailing list of say a dozen names/emails, one of them is chosen to be the recipient (in fact the first recipient) in the folder. I cannot figure out the rule. Certainly does not seem to be alphabetical. Thank you. Tobias
