Now that Thunderbird is no longer developed by Mozilla, and I really want to continue using Thunderbird, Do I need an install of Firefox to make it work ? Can I dump Firefox and continue to use thunderbird?

Some websites are better accessed using Chrome based browsers. (my.bookwhen.com is an example)

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Actually, Thunderbird is thriving on its own. Many new features since leaving Mozilla, good donations, hired good developers, the product is strong. Personally, I think Firefox is the best, but that's a personal decision. No, you do not need Firefox at all. Good luck with Chrome (my wife uses it, so it can't be bad).

Thanks David,

I also think Firefox is a better browser, but I have to use what works best with the sites I access. 20 years + ago I used to work on web applications to make them multi-browser compliant and its disappointing that there hasn't been full convergence in that time. Advising non-computer literate laptop users, Edge has to be a favourite as its already installed.

Mail is another story though, Its been a journey, just to maintain mail functionality! I hate web mail applications with a vengance and thunderbird does the job pulling together all the mail from multiple sources and protocols. Outlook express was fine until it was killed off. I always thought Thunderbird was the best application Mozilla had.

Thanks for sharing that. I do understand the issue with Edge; it's already there.

You can have both Firefox and Chrome installed as you can use Chrome for any sites that Chrome seems to work better for you.

Also I would prefer Chromium over Chrome if given the option.
