Many times the comment system on a new site is embedded from a different server, so cross-site cookie restrictions or content blocking could be a factor. Especially on sites that use Facebook for comments (I don't know what WSJ uses).
As a starting point, try making an exception to the Enhanced Tracking Protection feature on WSJ and see whether that makes any difference. These article has more information on ETP and cookies:
- Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop
- Total Cookie Protection and website breakage FAQ
If you use any ad blockers or other privacy blockers, they often have toolbar buttons that you can use to discover what they are blocking. I suggest taking a look at all of those to see whether any of them might be the culprit.
Any progress so far?
