Hi,

I've been looking everywhere to cancel the automatic download of files into the "download" folder when I ONLY need to open them for a short usage from a web page . Now I've got to manually wipe out the "download" folder on my computer... very annoying as now I sometimes don't know which files I've download and which have been put there from a Open only action. Why do I have to use another folder for my download than Firefox for temporary files???

I want to know if Firefox will go back with that stupid idea or if I need to look for another browser?

Thank you

Nicolas

There a way to revert back I'll post that screenshot. You start at the url with about:config and the see how the screenshot looks like to get this feature back. Currenlty not at my computer to post that but if you lookup my reply posting I did post that to similar posting.

What Mozilla will do (version 102) is provide a preference in about:config.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1738574#c127

What you can do in the meantime is change Settings > General > Downloads > Save files to {your temp folder} and switch back (if you wish) to Always ask you where to save files. (Remove the blank space in the following link.)

Thank you for the fast reply.

Seen another post but didn't understood the process.

Hope they will go back as people says this might be a temporary fix.

Ok back.

Go to URL type: about:config - accept this change in Search type: improvements - and you will see the screenshot setup and the change to make.

Romain Testard [:RT] This new option will be opt-in. We do not intend to revert to the previous default behaviour. Because of the downsides inherent in the use of the temp folder, we believe that the new default is better for new users as well as the majority of existing users. People who choose to change this preference or enterprise policy should be aware of those downsides and make a considered decision.

No one asked the user and no did they say why. This is not better it makes it worse. People choose - it was like they choose for the people. User aren't that dumb as this poster makes users to be. If they want users to go Edge or Chrome or Safari they are doing a Excellent job of it.

At that point I think users will remain on the last FF that allow this change and not update. They should be careful what they wish for here. I'll still use FF but if they remove this feature I will use my regedit to block updates.
