firefox won't store logins and passwords unless I do it manually. I've done everything the help section said to do.

Does 'everything' include the Settings under Logins and Passwords on the Privacy & Security page?

Are you possibly using Private Browsing mode ?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Does Firefox offer to store the new login via the key icon drop-down list on the location bar ?

Well I had to login with a different email address because firefox can't remember my other password and neither can I. Anyway, yes I tried that.

not in private browsing. It's been going on for 3 days. I tried trouble shooting mode and got nowhere. Usually when this kind of thing happens I come to conclusion that firefox had become a piece of crap again and I end up using chrome for a while. I shouldn't have to be an IT professional to use a browser.

I have no idea what that is but no it's not offering to store anything in any way shape or form.

Solved the problem by resetting firefox.

So it seems that the problem wasn't solved after all. It was when I reset firefox but when I changed the settings so that I didn't have to search from the address bar now it won't store new logins and passwords unless I put them in manually under the privacy settings.

Do you remember what settings you changed, so you can possibly revert the changes to see if that makes saving logins work ? Where did you make the changes? Is that on the Settings page (about:preferences) or elsewhere like directly via about:config ?
