Running 98.02, Windows 10. Firefox keeps opening without all my tabs and other personalized information. Just a single tab or maybe 2 that have nothing to do with me. If I go to about:profiles, one of the profiles listed will (so far) have my lost information. When I recovered the first time, I quickly created a profile if the current, good configuration. However, now when the problem recurs and I go back to that profile I created, Firefox is once again a single tab of a URL I've never seen. I'm afraid I will lose everything!
BTW the first symptom was that when I clicked on a link in email (Outlook 2021), the link opened in a new Firefox window, not a new tab of the current window. This, despite telling Firefox not to do that in Settings and checking about:configuration to make sure it would not occur.
Jescher, thanks for your reply. I thought I was going to get an email notification when someone commented, but I did not see one in your case. Hi Rick, could you start by checking whether you have a dual install of Firefox? Sometimes your preferred version is not the one that is the default version in Windows. Very confusing when the icons and program names are the same, and historically Office programs didn't always follow the system default, which was especially irritating.
This following locations are most likely with long time users whose computers date back to the days before 64-bit Firefox:
64-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
32-bit Firefox (possibly upgraded to 64-bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
However, sometimes users end up running Firefox from a more obscure folder for unknown reasons.
Another way to verify is to look at the Troubleshooting Information page in your preferred instance of Firefox and one that an external link launches in a different profile. The "Application Binary" row of the first table shows where Firefox is running from. See: Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.
