Reviving: "My buttons on menu bar not working - bookmarks, menu, downloads, etc." Topic

The original topic is located here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1180429

Menu bar is there, just no response or opening when click on bookmark, menu etc. was what he reported and I have not only the same issue, but it is happening with ALL Mozilla browsers I have including Tor, Firefox and Waterfox. I cannot figure out why this is happening!

I did follow the suggestions within that topic but it was all I could find on Google. Apparently this is NOT something that has happened to many people. Below I have including some possibly relevant data. If something else is required, please ask and I will reply back. Thanks!

Hi Paul, I haven't been following new issues on Windows 11, but let me ask some general questions.

(1) When did this problem start for you? For example, was version 97 okay on the same OS?

(2) If you resize the window (i.e., not maximized, not flush with the top of the screen), does it make any difference whether the Menu Bar responds to clicks?

(3) Do menus open if you use a hotkey such as Alt+B for Bookmarks? If so, are the menu items clickable or also dead?

Hi Paul, I haven't been following new issues on Windows 11, but let me ask some general questions. ...

Q. When did this problem start for you? A. It started only about a week ago. Thought it may have been last weeks Windows Dev update but the issue is also present with this weeks update and no one else has reported the issue. So to answer your question, yes 97 worked fine for me... as did this current version until a little over a week ago when this started.

Q. If you resize the window (i.e., not maximized, not flush with the top of the screen), does it make any difference whether the Menu Bar responds to clicks? A. Just tried it as I typically do have windows maximized at all times. Did not make a difference what the size of the window was at.

Q. Do menus open if you use a hotkey such as Alt+B for Bookmarks? If so, are the menu items clickable or also dead? A. Yes, the hotkeys do work but to get to the menu or settings, or downloads I have to type about:????? into the window to access it. Pain in the you know what. But yes, hot keys do work fine.

Thank you for your reply. If anything else comes to mind, please let me know.

It's mysterious. Most programs no longer have top menu bars, so it's difficult to suggest non-Mozilla programs to test for comparison.

Regarding other hotkeys, Alt+T followed by S opens the Settings page. Ctrl+J opens Downloads. See also: Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Firefox tasks quickly.

You misunderstood me.... perhaps I explained it incorrectly. The "Alt" menu bar is fine. What I cannot access is the "humburger menu" menu that is located next to the extensions (plus the extensions themselves) I cannot click to get the menus there. Hope that better explains what I am going through.

Oh, it's the main toolbar buttons that are not working.

Could you try disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration? This is a potential workaround for incompatibilities between Firefox and your graphics card/chipset driver software. This article describes where to make that change: Firefox's performance settings. This will take effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
