If TB doesn't check for new mail at startup, try this: Help/More Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, delete session.json.

Your solution seems to work better - Sometimes TB get new mail - Sometimes it doesn't, we will see.

NO - Your solution does not work.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years - Back when it was built into Netscape and I paid for it.

There are some other suggestions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1275606

If you're profile is the same one that's been used for many years, consider creating a new one and see if accounts check at startup (besides eliminating old settings and obsolete files that might be the cause).

Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, to create and manage profiles.

I was not aware of this, it does seem to be a strange thing for Thunderbird to have done! I hope they will review the situation and give people the option (like previously) to get new emails at start up.

what is session json?

It's the file that stores the window layout and open tabs at last closing. It can be viewed in a text editor.

Accounts are checked at startup on my setup (W10/TB 91) and always have been - as long as the option is selected in Server Settings. Deleting session.json often fixes it if it's not working.

Thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

If you have a strong need to have mail checked at startup, try creating a new profile and see if it works. Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, add an account. Your current profile is not affected.

Thank you, I will leave it as it is at the moment & hope Thunderbird put a fix out in a future update.

Thunderbird STARTED "Check for new messages at startup" just as fast as it ENDED "Check for new messages at startup" without an update ?!?!

Anyway, the problem seems to be "SOLVED".

Yes I noticed that today, was going to leave it a few days until I commented on it. Any way I hope it stays fixed!
