To answer who you paid - we can't tell for sure but: Thunderbird does not charge, although you can choose to donate. Thunderbird is a client email program that connects your computer to online email providers, while Tisacali and TalkTalk are email service providers. They are essentially the same company anyway as TalkTalk owns Tiscali since 2009/2010. So I'd say most likely TalkTalk.

To answer how to transfer - if your email account is set up as IMAP, and everything you expect to see is still on your online webmail, then simply set up Thunderbird to access your TalkTalk account. Thunderbird and Mail 'sync' with the online email, simply showing you what is in the online account. Then you can change/read/send/delete from webmail or Thunderbird or Mail, and the actions you take will appear in all of them. However if you are using POP, or have saved any emails in Mail that are no longer on your webmail, the process is quite different. (You can even have one email program set up as IMAP and one set as POP connecting to the same online account - but you need to know the difference and how you intend that to work or it will be confusing.) If you need help specifically for setting up Thunderbird with TalkTalk please ask on Mozilla Thunderbird support again - with that question in the subject and stating whether POP or IMAP
