Firefox 91

See screenshot.

I've been a Firefox user since the days of 2.0. I know what DuckDuckGo is, what search is, what it does and how to use it. I've set this search engine up myself! I don't need a tutorial.

How can I disable this misfeature?

Thanks, Alex

You can disable searching from the location bar by setting keyword.enabled = false on the about:config page. See also browser.urlbar.tabToSearch.onboard.interactionsLeft => 0

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ DuckDuckGo “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine, securedsearch

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

This did the trick. Thanks a lot!

Or rather, it didn't. It disabled both the banner (harmful, good-for-nothing excretion of a sick brain) and the ability to search (good, helpful, usable and useful thing). Is it possible to disable the former and preserve the latter?

You can always use a keyword search (ddg) or type '@' to initiate a search. Disabling keyword.enabled = false merely prevent searching directly by typing a query.

Nice try, but please no. The workflow of "type in the address bar, if it's a URL then it's navigated to; otherwise a search is made" has been working for years; why would I want starting to type unnecessary characters? It's just the intro banner that is the problem.
