Why is history not being saved in firefox. The answer to this depends on my uninstalling firefox and using chrome instead. I have done this but i am giving my chance to use firefox again.

Are you using the permanent private mode?

You may be in Private Browsing mode or told Firefox not to remember.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Turn off Always Use Private Browsing Mode Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Thanks a lot for the help FredMcD. In fact, I have been using Firefox ever since and I was really disappointed why this was happening. In blogs, there was not suggestion or recommendation to do this. They were pointing to people in Firefox that decided to let go of the history and bookmarks record. Now I finally got it. I will need to get back to those people to straighten them for to lack of information they are getting. Again thanks that I can go back to my favorite browser.

I am sorry to post this again. It does work but after a day, it is gone. History keeps on deleting its records. I have tweak all possible recommendations given, but to my disappointment. Its back. I need history for at least a week. Was it programmed this way.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes".

  • do not clear the Browsing History
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep

If you use external cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for Firefox.

I am not using "clear history when firefox closes". It deletes history a day after. I quit firefox because of this. It is no use retain record for only one day. Does not happen to Firefox before. I feel it is preprogrammed. Anyway I hope Firefox programmers know this feedback. Good bye.
