Removing old devices from my account

I'm attempting to add my devices with sync to my desktop device.

I'm concerned because (when I go to "connected services") I see many devices... mostly from previous attempts to set this up. I notice the items on the list have icons associated with them. Computers (with a computer icon) and devices (with a mobile icon) are clear.

1) What does the globe icon indicate?

2) How can I remove all the old connections? I've followed the instructions to "sign out" from those devices; after confirmation I am returned to the connected services screen where no change has apparently been made.

3) How do I rename a device? I use the mobile app to change it... but (on display) the old name remains and I see no evidence that the renaming took place. However, if I attempt to rename it again, it shows correctly in that dialog. The connected devices screen continues with the old name.

I actually un-installed and re-installed the app on the device... UGH. Upon reinstallation, the old names are present.

I'm returning to firefox after many years... and I can say that the frustration here raises a flag... Not sure FF is ready for prime time.

Please help. My eyes are sore from reading much in the help docs... Intuition does not help here... in fact these behaviors are counter-intuitive.

I shall appreciate any/all assistance to help me return to Firefox.

You have many questions...

1) What does the globe icon indicate?

This indicates a "web session", that is, signing in to your Firefox Account using a web browser.

2) How can I remove all the old connections?

Hmm, you used the "Sign out" button on https://accounts.firefox.com/settings#connected-services and after you click the Refresh arrow button at the upper right of the list, the device is back? Does it show a fresh time like "a few seconds ago"?

3) How do I rename a device? I use the mobile app to change it... but (on display) the old name remains and I see no evidence that the renaming took place. However, if I attempt to rename it again, it shows correctly in that dialog. The connected devices screen continues with the old name.

In Firefox for Android or Firefox for iOS?

On Android:

menu button > Settings > [account] > Device Name

Then if you use Sync now there, and then refresh on the web page, the web page should pick up the update. Any luck?

Thank you so much. Some time after receiving your reply, I went back at it... And now I don't feel so concerned about the items marked with a globe.

I have successfully removed several items. This is what I'm left with (after, as I say, manipulating the connected devices page):

  • My desktop is listed (with a PC icon)
  • Both my devices are listed (with a mobile icon)
  • 4 web sessions (2 of which I feel comfortable with: Mozilla VPN & Mozilla Support)
    • the other 2 are labelled "Firefox Mobile xx, Android 10")

+One of my devices reports activity 10 minutes ago +The other reports activity 3 hours ago

I believe that the 2 generic sessions are identified with my 2 devices.

I cannot successfully logout of the 2 sessions... It appears to log out, then refreshes and shows it again. I'll monitor this... hopefully the 2 generic items will go away in time...

Again, thank you for your prompt reply. -Kam
