As I hear if so many people that think that because there see a padlock and https, they'll trust the site to the point of entering credit card details, I wonder whether there might be a plug-in or a simple code upgrade that would alert users ; at worse financial institutions can upgrade to EV if their customers are not comfortable.

This is an interesting debate! It used to be more like you say (with a green padlock for EV) but there was a conscious decision to move away from this:

I can see the merits of having a specific EV certificate indicator, but it's also a bit disappointing to note that the EV process is easier to subvert than it should be:
