need to recover bookmarks WITHOUT using Mozilla standard proceedures - had catastrophy
My 11y/o Win7 Pro x64 based water cooled monster finally failed taking the Intel DX79si m/b, the PNY Nvidea GTX980 and 2 of the 8 - 8gb mem sticks with it. The 16TB and 8TB add-in raid cards survived thank god. Also salvaged was the 250GB Samsung EVO SSD "C" drive. It was cloned to a duplicate the 1st day of every month. (No, it hasn't been overclocked in 8+ years, and even then I had the shut down temps set @ 50c). New m/b, processor, video card, memory, and unfortunately, Win10 Pro x64. All do in Friday. :-(. This old (76) man is gonna have to learn all over again:-( ( 'cept this time it's air-cooled and VERY conservative :-) )
My problem is the several hundred bookmarks I had in Firefox (I'm a LONGTIME user. I DON'T want to loose them. I've got the salvaged "C" drive SSD in a mini-dock (D:/ in the laptop) and I'm looking at them on my laptop (also Win7 Pro x64 based) ALL the files appear to be there at the time of the failure. I've already copied a bunch of the files from it so I'm not shut off completely. When I try to use the Mozilla feature to transfer them, it appears it want's to re-install & rewrite Firefox on the D:/ drive. NOT good. Isn't there a single (even multiple) file(s) that can be copied to C:\ so I can disconnect the mini-dock and THEN "import" them?

When you use the Restore menu, Firefox lists the files in the current profile. Click "Choose File" -- below the list -- to go out to disk and load one of the old files and replace your current set with the old one (955-957 items, according to the file names).

If you did not customize your installation too much, your Firefox data was saved under
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
Since AppData is a hidden folder, make sure you set Windows to make that visible: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files-0320fe58-0117-fd59-6851-9b7f9840fdb2
If you want to be able to data mine this folder later, you can copy the whole Firefox program to a convenient location on your new drive for reference.
Within the Firefox folder you should find a folder named Profiles and in that folder, one or more individual profile folders. So far, so good?
Each profile folder will have a bookmarkbackups folder containing automatic backups with the creation date coded into the file name. You can copy one of those to a more convenient location such as your new desktop and then use the Restore feature ("Choose File") to restore that set of bookmarks to your new Firefox profile. See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

1st I want to thank you for the response with all the navigation help.....old men forget that stuff when it ain't used every day. No joy. See screenshots attached. All files are the same and show only the four(4) bookmarks on this laptop and they were added here after the other computer failed. Dug out the cloned "C:\" SSD from 05/01/22 and it is exactly the same. Make's no sense. Just more time on search engines I guess when the new one is up and running. Some of them were really obscure, especially when it came to collector car parts & services :-(
