Is there a way to do complex searches in a saved (or realtime global) search?

I really like the global search feature and use it often. I also have maybe 20-25 saved searches that run automatically.

The problem that I'm having is that while you can specify many parameters in a search and choose from many types (From, To, Has Attachments, Date on/after/before, body contents, etc.), you can only AND all the parameters or OR them all. For ideal function on some of my searches I'd need A && B && (C || D), for example, but there's no way to indicate that.

I thought a workaround might be to create one saved search with all the ANDs and point a second saved search at that one using the ORs, but I can't point one search at another.

Is there a way to do this? Is there a search plugin with more flexibility on the search definition, and if so, can it create saved searches?

I think search uses the same logic engine as filters. And IIRC filters (msgFilters.dat file) can be hand edited to do combos of AND and OR. If those statements are correct, then you should be able to hand edit virtualFolders.dat

If you search search enough you should be able to find something about hand editing filters
