Setting My Home Page

Is there a way to set a web site as my home page and not have to reset it every week or so? Also, when will we be able to choose what web site is loaded when we open a new tab?

Hello David,

Well, the sync theory is only a thought. Else I cant understand what would overwrite your settings without your permission. But whatever it is, its clearly on a regular basis.

In regards to customizing the FF sync you can paste and go to this url to find some options:

about:preferences#sync

While I believe the sync feature is kind of new and has merits, it lacks features, imo. As for me, I am logged out 99% of the time. But once in a while i will do a sync upload to my FF account.

In any case, try out forcing your preferred homepage via that about:config section. As for me, i like to start up with a blank page that way i can gauge if FF is starting up ok or not. Then i click on a bookmark on the bookmark tab to open up a page.

I think we users need to have a bit more control, in some cases.

Hi David,

To make a website your homepage: Go to Options > Home > Homepage and new windows From the drop-down box, select Custom URLs... Enter your homepage URL in the Paste a URL... field

To load a website upon opening a new tab, use this add-on called: New Tab Override

@strafy Thank you, but you did not address the second half of my question, which is the real issue. . "Is there a way to set a web site as my home page and not have to reset it every week or so?" . As for the new tabs, does Mozilla have any intention of fixing them, so we can set them to open where we want?

@strafy The New Tab Override works great.

Thank You

hello strafy,

it's odd that the settings get lost every week. Might you be doing a sync with another device, like maybe once a week?

In any case, you could modify the configuration settings by doing a paste and go on the following url

about:config

then do a search on homepage and edit the settings. Example shown in the attached pic.

btw: make a print screen of the current settings before modifying. this way you can do some restoring - if needed.

This question about Syncing is intriguing. . The issue I have, with the homepage resetting, is on my iMac. I have 'tried' to set up a sync. to my iPad and iPhone, so the bookmarks on my iMac (master) get updated onto my other two devices. (slaves) . Is there a way to do this so ONLY the bookmarks/favorites are synchronize? . Also, you indicate that the sync may be happening once a week. Is there someplace where a schedule is set? I figured it would prep. a sync when I altered the current iMac bookmarks. . David

Good info all the way through this thread, but it only allows me to mark one as 'the' solution. Oh, well.
