Hello. First of all, I was already searching an found this question (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1285465). It seems to be exactly my problem, but it is archived, so I had to open a new one.

I am using Sieve Filter, this is why some new mails are sorted into direcotries via the server, before I even start Thunderbird.

I read in the other questions, that this has to be an issue regarding the VPN, Anti-Virus Software. This is why I have set up the same account in Apple Mail, with the same Settings. In Apple Mail I don't have this issue. New mails show up in their directory without clicking the directory.

Does anyone have an idea, how to find the problem? For me it seems to be a bug on showing new mail. Maybe the new mails are there, but Thunderbird has a problem in showing them?

Thanks for your help and kind regards.

So, are the directories that collect filtered mail subscribed in TB, and are they set to be checked when getting new mail? The fact that Apple mail 'works' if a VPN or antivirus is in place doesn't necessarily mean there's an issue with TB; different email apps have different levels of compatibility. If you have an antivirus (which one?), make sure the TB profile folder is excluded from scanning, and if you connect through a VPN, disable it and then test with TB.

I am feeling really stupid right now, I did check everything before, but not all of the directories, just randomly. I checked once again if directories are set to be checked when getting new mail, but not ALL of them and found some, that were not. I guess that will make the difference. I will have an eye on it from now and want to apologize for bothering you.

For those, who don't want to experience the same problem with new folders/directories: I found something, that helps with this in the future. When you go to the Settings of Thunderbird, you can find the Configuration Console (button at the bottom in "general" - MacOS). With this console you can set the value of

mail.server.default.check_all_folders_for_new

to true, so all new folders will be checked automatically for new mails and you don't have to set it manually.

And because I forgot before: Thank you sfhowes for your reply!

Cheers
