Change default bookmark location to "other" instead of most recently used folder

more options

Is there a way that I can change this setting in config rather than downloading an add-on? This changed with the most recent Firefox update for me (I'm currently on 85.0.1. for Ubuntu). Currently, the default save behavior is for bookmarks to save to the most recent folder you've picked. My preferred behavior would be for all bookmarks to save to "Other bookmarks" until I can file them away later.

The three other workarounds are:

(A) Use the Default Bookmark Folder extension to set your preferred folder (overrides the built-in behavior)

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-bookmark-folder/

Please disable the extension before using the Restore or Import feature, at least until the bug in version 3.1.0 related to these bulk operations is fixed.

(B) Lock the browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation preference using Autoconfig files

See:

(C) Roll back the entire package of recent bookmarks toolbar changes

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste toolb and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 preference to switch the value from true to false

Some of the changes only take effect in new windows (Ctrl+n) or after doing a regular exit/restart of Firefox.

this might help you: 1. go to: about:config 2. there, search for: default 3. set parameter: browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation -> unfiled

Note that Firefox updates browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation automatically if you save a bookmark, so if you ever would use the dialog to save a bookmark to another location then this pref would be modified to that location.

(For the record)

Bug 1684528 Cannot set fixed default bookmark folder any more (quote) I tried setting browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation to "unfiled", which works exactly once, but when I change the bookmark folder on one bookmark it still also changes the default for other, new bookmarks. So currently there seems to be no way to have all new bookmarks appear in the same, consistent folder

You're right, I chose the answer too soon. I just tested it and it reset the pref. When I tested it earlier, I moved a bookmark from one folder to another which I had thought was also causing the behavior.
