Please could you tell me how to insert web links in e-mails.- so that I do not have to show the whole web address in my text ?

For info - What I have tried: 1. There does not seem to be a button or Edit function to enter a link

2 When I search on this (T-bird) site, 99% of the articles &c offered have nothing to do with links (e.g. how change e-mail address / Why T-bird security not xxx / &c) and after trying 6 or 7 pages of this I gave up.

3. When I look on the web, I get offered solutions like this:

[URL=https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-use-an-apostrophe-in-a-url]Techwalla/URL

Strangely, these don't work (I suspect that I would have to write the whole e-mail in html, which I forgot how to do years ago).

This will only work with html-format messages. Type in some text, highlight the text, Ctrl+K, paste the link (Ctrl+V), OK.

If you must compose in plain text, use a URL-shortening app like TinyURL.

This will only work with html-format messages. Type in some text, highlight the text, Ctrl+K, paste the link (Ctrl+V), OK.

If you must compose in plain text, use a URL-shortening app like TinyURL.

I have a slightly different problem. I often want to insert a link that I have not copied to the clipboard. In most email programs this is easy. But I can 't figure out how to do it in TBird (which, overall, I love). For example, I write in the body of the email "Click this link." I highlight the word "link" and either Ctrl+K or click the Insert tab up top and then Link. A box opens that basically says "put your link in this box." But, if I type in a link -- let's say "www.Southwest.com" -- and then click ok or Ctrl+V, what is entered behind the link (and what the email recipient gets when they click it) is not the link I typed in, but rather whatever the last think I copied to my clipboard was. So, what I want to know is, how do I enter a valid link without copying it to the clipboard first.

Also, while I am on it, in other programs I have used, if you type an email address or a valid web link into a message, the program turns that into a clickable link by default. The only way I have found to do this in TBird is to type in the link, copy it to my clipboard, highlight the link in the text, then click Ctrl+K and Ctrl+V. Is there any way to make TBird simply recognize these links by default?
