Need to know how to restore my bookmarks. When I click on the icon now it connects me to "History"

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Note that the Library handles bookmarks and history and downloads, so do not get confused. Note that Firefox 85+ shows an Other Bookmarks button at the right end of the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Do you see the bookmarks in the sidebar (Ctrl+B) ?

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B. Firefox 84+ <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> O.

You lost your bookmarks? Was any other saved data affected, such as saved logins, add-ons, custom settings?

I tried several of the solutions from the Support community. The last one I tried gave me a new icon shown as "Other Bookmarks" which shows up just under the icons on the top right of the screen. When I clicked on that, I did access my bookmark folders, but each of the folders is empty. So none of my bookmarks is available to me and I had lots of them. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks to all of you who tried to help. I did a refresh of Firefox and that cured the problem.
