Hi, first of thanks for reading and possibly responding.

The issue I am having has been going on for a few days. In websites where youtube video's are embedded if I try and play the video on the said site it will load and display an error message An error occurred. Please try again later. If I visit the video on youtube, link provided in the video itself, then it plays just fine. Error is not restricted to one site but anything that embeds youtube videos.

I have also come across some strange youtube.com issues, when I am on the main website you get the thumbnails of video's but no time duration are displayed in the thumbnail, neither are the 3 dots where you can have one of the videos removed (not a big deal and maybe this was implemented a while ago I don't know tbh). When I play a video, as in visit the video page on youtube the side bar videos sometimes do and sometimes don't display time duration.

Please check attached image to see what I mean. Left is without said timecodes, right is what it almost should be.

What addons do I use: Ublock Origin is the only one worth noting but even without it the weird thing still occurs. I don't use any plug ins that correspond with youtube.

I am using the latest Firefox on Windows 10.

Things I have tried thus far to resolve it: - make sure Firefox is up to date - try with and without addblocker (Ublock) - remove Adobe flash entirely - refresh Firefox and clear all data and cookies 9tried this I think 3 times now, no change) - looked through older posts with similar issues but most links regarding html5 on youtube were 404 and sometimes the solution stated things like 'cause by some video helped addon' which I do not use or updating Flash

Am I the only one with this issue?

I think I have resolved it strangely enough. If I sign out on both accounts, if I sign into the youtube related gmail first and primary email second then the probleem seems to be resolved. Embedded still seems playable and no 403 error when pressing manage account.

Previously after resetting everything I would sign in with my primary email first and youtube related second and then switch over.

Timecodes still go not show but at least embedded videos play now.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi, let me get back to everything that was being said here.

@FredMcD I tried starting in safe mode and embedded video's still do not play, they use the same error code.

As for the other links, this is what I mentioned before, let me quote from the first page for example concerning checking and enabling HTML 5. The HTML5 player worked without any issues. How to find that out? You can right-click on the video to get information which technology is being used to play it.

If you see "About Adobe Flash Player" in the context menu, Flash is being used while "About the HTML5 player" indicates that HTML5 video is used instead.

If I right click the embedded video I simply get the menu listing Loop, Copy video url. Nothing there says either Flash or HTML5.

First thing we are going to do is enable the HTML5 player on YouTube. Visit https://www.youtube.com/html5 and click on the request the HTML5 player button.

Please check attached screenshot, like said before no mentions of HTML5 are made on the page.

Open about:addons by loading it in Firefox's address bar. Switch to plugins and change Shockwave Flash to Never Activate from the menu on the right of its entry.

Adobe Flash is not listed in the plug in list.

Other things you can try: Reload the video at a later point in time or immediately. Update the Adobe Flash Player. Upgrade your browser. Delete cache and cookies. Change the video quality."

Flash is no longer being updated, 3+4 have already been done multiple times. Last option is not possible due to the error message overlaying the controls.

Adding again also, the link mentions ALL youtube videos to be displaying the error but I only get it with videos embedded on another website.

Link 2 mentions addblocker, but as mentioned the error also occurs in safe mode without any addons active. Link 3: mentions changing settings in Flash or updating it. So that info is sort of out of date as well.

What virus or security software are you running?

Only the basic Windows Defender

My other post concerning the top two replies has to be modded first but shortly: these solutions didn't solve the issue. The problem also occurs in the safe mode with all addons disabled. The other solutions provided are out of date (update Flash when we're not using it anymore, besides I removed it this morning to see if it would solve the issue and it didn't)

Please keep in mind this only concerns embedded videos, not videos on their youtube page.

Can you provide an example site?

more options

Sure https://www.geenstijl.nl/5157163/live-160-groenlinksers-vs-paar-windmolentjes/

embedded youtube video from this site for example does nto play unless I open it on youtube (aka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2wqDuIk7bQ&feature=emb_imp_woyt instead of the embedded link) This is the case with any such provided link, any 4chan post that has a youtube link in it that changes to an embedded video is the sane.

Easiest way would be (because links to other websites have to get looked over by a mod and last time it didn't get posted): Any youtube video, click share, click embedded which shows you a sample of how the video looks like with the code to the right. While the video is playable int he background on the main page, the embedded version will not play and show the said error.

What are your cookie settings? Also, do you have hardware acceleration on?

You mean browser privacy? Standard. If I am missing something here then sorry I don't fully understand what you mean. I've used Clear Data to clear out cookies and cached web content a few times today, made no change to the issue.

Edit: I am using the recommended performance settings. So I think so.

Can you uncheck the performance setting, restart the browser and try again?

Also, just for kicks... can you log into another windows account. Open Firefox and do not log into your Firefox account and try again?

The hardware acc- didn't change anything. However when I make a different windows user and use firefox on that fresh user without loging in then everything seems to be working like it should (embedded videos play).

Could this be another corrupt windows user profile thing? This would then be the second time this has happened to me, it is very time consuming to move everything to a new account.

So on the new account, go ahead and log into your Firefox account and try again.

I tried something a little different. I uninstalled Firefox and made sure CCleaner removed every last bit of what was left of it from my HDD. I reinstalled it then, making sure it would clear all data during the installation as well and first tried without logging into the account, followed by logging in and trying the same again. It seems to have resolved the problem.

I am guessing the origin came from something Firefox saved in the userdata, not exactly sure what it was but thankfully a full proper cleanup managed to wipe that corrupted file. Thankfully so cause a corrupt windows profile is quite annoying in some cases of software.

Thanks for helping me solve this, would've taken me quite a while to get to that point otherwise.

No need to move, just need to figure out what is causing the issue.

Okay problem not solved, it happened again shortly after

So on the new account it worked right?

Okay problem is not solved but I have found a cause, I can replicate and turn off the issue now but it is weird...

I log into 2 google accounts/emails, my main email and a second account I use for youtube only mostly. If I log into the emails and then go to youtube it will automatically log me in with whatever first email address I used and everything looks fine and embedded videos play properly, but if I press switch account and click on the second then the problem appears (the second one is my actual used youtube account). See pic attached. Time codes vanish from the thumbnails and embedded videos display the error message.

If I switch back again the problem disappears.

Edit:

Worth noting if I am logged into the first and press manage account in that menu then I am redirected to the general page for your user info. If I do it with the Waffletoaster account selected I get: 403. That’s an error.

We're sorry, but you do not have access to this page. That’s all we know.

Just curious... Do the same steps work in Chrome?
