recent upgrade can't get emails
Ever since Nov 3 and the last Thunderbird upgrade, I cannot get my emails through Thunderbird, although I can send them OK. I tried changing from POP to IMAP as I thought that might be the problem, but I still don't get the emails. My provider says "not my problem." What else can I try?

Since upgrading to ver 78.5.0, I cannot receive e-mails from any of my accounts (I have 3 in Thunderbird). If one compacts an account, in the bottom line it says "email@example.com: Connection to mail.xxx.com" which seems to indicate it is connected. Using a Firefox to access the account shows there are incoming e-mails waiting to be downloaded.
When sending an e-mail, I get this error message: "Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sentfirstname.lastname@example.org". But the e-mail does arrive at the destination, indicating Thunderbird is connected to the server.
Anyone have a solution?
If you are using ESET/NOD32 security/AV then probability is very high it is causing your problems. According to ESET forums, you should temporarily disable SSL on ESET until they solve the problem per https://support.eset.com/en/kb3126-disable-ssl-filtering-in-eset-windows-products?ref=esf - the problem is being reported by dozens of users https://forum.eset.com/topic/26517-problems-with-thunderbird-and-imaps/ https://forum.eset.com/discover/
You might also inform them of your difficulty.
You hit the nail on the head the first time out! Made the change in ESET Internet Security as directed in the reference link. I followed the first part of the instructions which indicated I should turn SSL in ESET back on, Thunderbird is operating normally with the SSL enabled in ESET after I rebooted the computer. Email is again flowing into the accounts.
A big thank you for troubleshooting this so quickly.
