I have a gremlin in my system
From time to time (this happened this morning with TB78 but has happened with earlier versions), I see in my inbox a load of messages for "TEST" and none for me by name. When I go to Address Book I find an entry with no First: (name), no Last: and the Display: "TEST" (without the quotes). I correct the entry and all is well till the next time. Any suggestions as to how I can catch or kill the gremlin?

Which address book? Outgoing mail is automatically added to the "Collected" address book. So if you reply to "test" that address will be added.
Personally I turn off the use of address book entries for display names in options. Search for "display name" without the quotes in options
Unfortunnately Matt has not understood my description of the problem. I have never associated my e-mail address with the name "TEST". That association is made by the gremlin.
