I am a computer scientist doing research on a machine that must occasionally be connected to the internet for very basic operations.
Automatic updates are extremely disruptive, destroy current work, and do damage that must be corrected laboriously.
How do I completely eliminate all automatic updating?

Hello!
By default, Firefox updates automatically. If you would like to disable Automatic Updates in Firefox follow these steps below:
1.Select the “Menu” Menu Button button in the upper-right corner, then choose “Options“. 2. Select “General” on the left pane. 3. Scroll down to the “Firefox Updates” section. 4. Select one of the following options as desired:
- Automatically install updates
- Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them
- Never check for updates
Check or uncheck the “Use a background service to install updates” option as desired.
