Any time I go to upload a file when using firefox, the file explorer is unable to load and makes firefox unresponsive, meaning I have to end the program via task manager. This doesn't occur on other browsers, and safe mode has made no difference. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Here are some of the technical reports from the windows reliability monitor:

The program firefox.exe version 79.0.0.7506 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Well done. That means something else in the system is the problem. As a test, disable your protection programs.

I've actually just managed to solve it. When I realised it was a Windows issue I ran the compatability troubleshooter and selected that it ran properly in Windows 8. Somehow that seems to have solved it!

Thanks for your help.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Yes the problem still occurs with Firefox in safe mode. However, I've found it stops if I put Windows in safe mode
