I've been using Firefox for many years, and search results have always opened in a new tab by default. Now, with Firefox 81.0.2, they're opening in the current tab, and I can't figure out how to get back the old way. Does anybody know?

There are prefs for both the search bar and location bar available on the about:config page.

For the search bar on the Navigation toolbar you can set this pref to true on the about:config page.

  • browser.search.openintab

Whether addresses and search results typed into the address bar should be opened in new tabs by default.

  • browser.urlbar.openintab

How/where are you initiating the searches ?

Do you use the location bar to search or a search bar on the Firefox Home page or search bar on another webpage ?

I use the search bar just to the right of the address bar, just as I've done for years.
