Opening new message from external link
I have Thunderbird installed and am on version 78. If I'm on a website and it says something like "click here to send email" or some other email link and I click on it I get a screen asking if I want to install Thunderbird. I already have installed I just need it to open the new message box. There's some communication missing somewhere.

What do you have in Firefox Options/General/Applications for the mailto entry (see picture)?
It's on "use thunderbird".

For some reason it just can't find where Thunderbird is installed. When I click on the email address in a website the screen pops up saying "allow changes tom computer" and then asks to install Thunderbird. For some reason FF just can't find it.
Is TB the default email app in W10 Settings, Apps, Default apps?
It is now! Let me try again.
That didn't work. Still getting the installer message. Shoot.
Uninstall TB, delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird or C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird folder, if you have the 32 bit or 64 bit TB, then download and run the installer from here. At the end of the setup, don't run TB, but restart the computer. This process doesn't affect your data in the separate profile folder.
I will try that and report back.
You're going to be sorry you ever got mixed up with me! I have two versions of TB -- 68 and 78. I guess I want to get rid of 68. I click uninstall from the settings menu and it opens a file with a FF folder. I open that and there's a profile folder and something that says PostSigningData.
No idea why a FF folder appears. Just delete the program folders for all versions of TB and download the installer.
I do tend to come up with weird problems! Thanks for your help.
