When I view the blitzortung.org (live lightning map) website I do not hear any sounds associated with the lightning strikes. The normal sound is a very short duration "click". The sound is present when using other browsers but I really hate using Chromium (don't like Google). I am running Debian Linus 10 and I nominally use Firefox ESR. I have downloaded the regular Firefox and the problem occurs with Firefox 80 as well as with ESR 68.12.0.

By opening the PulseAudio mixer while the blitzortung site is opened I have observed that there is a brief flash of the AudioIPC server that coincides with the lightning strike "clicks". My guess is that the AudioIPC server response time is the issue.

Is there any way to get around this issue.

Sound works fine for every other web site.

It does not play sound. This may be a website issue.

As I said in my original post the sound works fine in the Chromium browser so I don't think it is a website issue. I reiterate that in the PulseAudio Mixer I see a brief flash of the Firefox AudioIPC Server that coincides with the lightning flash, but the AudioIPC server does not seem to be enabled for long enough for the brief click of the lightning flash to be processed. Also, older versions of Firefox worked fine. This leads me to suspect that the issue is with the Firefox AudioIPC server.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Restarted in safe mode and there is still no sound. Here is a suggestion. Open the site blitzortung.org and see if it works for you. I am pretty certain, having seen a multitude of posts on other sites (such as Reddit), that the problem lies with Firefox.
