Watching videos on Youtube and using keyboard controls

I am using Firefox on an Android device with a keyboard attached. I'd like to watch videos on sites like Youtube and use the keyboard for basic controls such as pause and skip forward. This does not work when I use the mobile version of Youtube; all keyboard input is ignored when playing a video.

If I switch to the desktop version of Youtube, the keyboard controls work, but fullscreen zooming is now broken. When I tap the fullscreen icon the site zooms to larger than the phone's screen, rather than fitting in the screen. And I cannot pan or pinch zoom the image, so it is unusable in this state. Why must this be so difficult?

For reference my device has a 1440 by 2880 (18:9) aspect ratio, though I don't know if that matters.

I'm sure there's a Firefox extension somewhere that could fix this, but in your infinite wisdom only 9 handpicked extensions work on Firefox now. (If it was not apparent, your decision-making on that matter is extremely unappreciated.)
