Some users report that that was solved changing the setting "connection security" from SSL/TLS to None. Maybe it will work also for you.

Afraid not :(

On tools menu - activity manager option does it show any error?

So no errors but doesn't get any mail? What's happening actually - do you have any account set and is online (not set offline use)?

So 78.2.1 was OK?

Everything was fine yesterday, I have 15 accounts set up. All folders & old email are there but not receiving any new ones, I can send mail but get error that the message can't be saved so I have to click to manually save it.

Can you access your profile folder and tell us how many pref.js files do you have there? I assume there might be some corrupted files or to many "instructions" with multiple such files... Click the Application menu button, then go to the Help menu and choose Troubleshooting Information. A new tab will open with information about your setup. Click on Open Folder

Got prefs-1 to prs-16 I presume 1 for each account. No pref.js files

On that folder (which opened when you have clicked on "open folder") there is no pref.js file? Are you sure? Assuming you are right - with TB app opened, select all those pref...js files and move (not copy nor delete) to desktop or any other folder outside that folder. Restart TB - what happen now?

LE-FYI: move action is intended to have a backup if something bad happen... IF it's worse then you can copy-back on that folder (overwriting what was saved by TB on restart)

Sorry not in office now, on my laptop running TB version 68.12.0 & it works fine.

I have the exact problem as you do. Was running 68.12.0 fine but after updating to 78.2.2, Thunderbird would no longer download new emails. Status bar showed it is online, when clicked on Get Messages, the status bar displayed "Connected to" my email server but somehow the connect was reset and not proceeding to say "Host contacted, sending login information" or "Checking inbox for new messages".

Now I've installed an older version Thunderbird 68.9.0 (32-bit version as I'm running Win10 32-bit OS) from the Thunderbird releases download page. Needed to create a new profile as my original profile cannot be re-used in an older version after running 78.2.2. At least I'm able to download new emails from my ISP email server again with 68.9.0.

If hidden/system files are visible but no prefs.js file then I assume you have checked the profile "you know" it is used by TB but not the one which is actually using it (because no such js.file = no email accounts visible in TB) Please try to get to that profile as I've mentioned above - Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Click on Open Folder and compare it with the folder "you know" it is used by TB

Some users mention that a workaround is by toggling the value of the option security.tls.version.min from 3 (or 2) to 1. Also you might try to set security.tls.version.enable-deprecated = true, for sending mails to work.

Would it help?

I removed all of the js files & restarted a default one appears from ?

There are no hidden js files.

The default (prefs.js) is created by TB when is closing if there was nothing there... I assume you can still can not send nor receive mails, isn't it? If I'm right - would you add here a screenshot with the errors mentioned on the error console (ctrl + shift + J)?
