When I download some csv type files using the latest versions of Firefox I get the properties instead of the data. This is does not pertain to all CSV files, just some and this used to work for me, but popped up as an issues in the last week. I'm now using version 80 of Firefox. If I use another browser I can download the data in question. Is this a known issue?

What do you mean with properties ? Are that the HTTP response headers ?

Can you attach a screenshot?

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?

You can check the headers in the Web Console or Network Monitor.

The information I get is the same info that comes up when I use the Inspect element function in the right click menu while hovering over 'download' link. There are hundreds of lines of information that come back and it includes personal info so no screen shot. I thought this was a website problem until I tried another browser (Edge) and was able to download as expected.

I'm still no sure what you see.

Does Firefox open this CSV file in a tab (so you see its content) instead of giving the download dialog or do you get the page source ?

Firefox will pass it through to MS Excel and the file opens in excel. I can see the contents of the file and it contains what looks like source to me. The first line starts with "!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC" and goes on for hundreds of lines that start with things like "meta name=", "link rel=", "body class=", "style type=", etc. Each line starts and ends with a bracket (less than, greater than).

What do you get in Firefox if you give the file a .html file extension ?

A screen shot of the first few lines is attached.

That definitely is not a CSV file, it seems to be some kind of template used to generate a web page.

Amidst all the useless stuff, can you find the body and see whether there is any error message, like Not Authorized or anything that might help explain why the site gave you that file instead of the CSV file?

I haven't come across anything obvious in terms of an error in the file, not to say it's not there. I'll keep looking. I have come across another error downloading a CSV in a different website. Here the error is the download is canceled (see attached). As with the other problem when I switch browsers (to Edge) all works as expected.

Hmm, a canceled download could be a mistaken understanding of your intent. Does the retry button (the arrow on the right side) allow the download to complete?

Another thing you could try with a failed download is to right click > Copy Download Link and then paste that into the address bar of a new tab and submit it there. If the server is sending an error, hopefully it will appear in the tab rather than being lost in the background somewhere.

The refresh worked for the canceled download so thank you for that. It's a good work-around, but now the question is why is the download being canceled in the first place? As it relates to both problems I've outlined above I've been successfully downloading these files for quite sometime. These two problems just started happening after the latest updates (a week or so ago).

There was a problem in Firefox 80.0 related to not sending cookies for some downloads that was fixed in Firefox 80.0.1. Not sure if that is the issue with your downloads, since the retry worked. ??

I just confirmed that 80.0.1 doesn't fix either of the issues.

Update: Csv download self canceling, after changing the Applications option for 'CSV file (text/csv) from 'Save file' to 'Always ask' the download no longer self cancels.
