Hi,

I updated to the latest, utterly, preposterously, appallingly, awfully, obnoxiously bad version of FF on Android and immediately bailed back to V68.11.0 which I found on the web. Imagine my shock and horror at finding the new version back on my system again, without my intervention, a few hours later !!

Please can someone tell me how to set up my system so that it doesn't update FFA to any later versions, and so that the latest update is not shown in the Play Store under "My apps & games" as otherwise it is likely that the software abomination that is the latest version of FFA will find its way back onto my tablet.

I have spent hours on this, setting up and re-setting up my browser and I really have no idea what on earth was going on in the minds of the developers of this latest crock. Is it the secret intention of the leadets of this project to kill FF completely ? It seems that every change tnat is made makes browsing less intuitive and easy and there is absolutely zero payback in terms of useful functionality. Seriously, is it your intention to kill FF altogether ? It really seems like it.

But if you could answer my other questions as the higher priority, that would help.

Thanks,

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to turn off auto updating apps, you will need to open the Google Play store app on your device, go into Settings and turn off Auto-update apps. I strongly recomend against this as it would leave your device and date open to security and stability threats and possibly make it harder to update in the future.

I do not wish "to turn off auto updating apps". As I said in my question : I wish to prevent V68.11.0 of FFA from ever updating to the latest abortion.

If anybody here could address my actual questions that would be great.

Thanks,

You could install Fennec F-Droid - https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid/ - which is currently pretty much Firefox 68. You can either run it alongside the official firefox or uninstall firefox official entirely. I guess if you install the F-Droid client (rather than download the apk directly, which didn't seem to work on one of my devices) you'll either need to uninstall it afterwards to prevent future updates or look for a way to disable any auto update on that (I just uninstalled it).

I'm hoping the Mozilla will come to their senses and put right at least some of the most glaring deficiencies in the disaster that is 79, because sticking with an old version will mean no security updates, so is risky. If they don't, I'm already checking out other browsers.

Turning off auto update for Firefox in Google Play Store does NOT stop this virus called Firefox from updating!

I too am pissed off that there is no setting to allow you to choose your Home page! I can't think of any reason for them to remove this option!
