When I restart my computer, I lose all history, passwords, everything. It opens on Firefox's home page and basically starts Firefox from scratch. I have to redo everything. How can I keep this info in my browser upon restarting my computer?

Hi ericmorris25, I'm a Windows person, but I have seen other MacOS users mention this. It could be a problem with the Firefox application not installing successfully, so every time you start it is like a new installation. Could you review the steps in the following support article and see whether that method of installation works better:

How to download and install Firefox on Mac

Hi ericmorris25,

  • In the open Firefox window, place the cursor on any open tab.
  • Right click and you will see the second last option as Undo Close Tab.
  • You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + T.

Troubleshooting Information page:

Troubleshooting Information is a page in Firefox You only need one of the methods to open the page The "Open Folder" button should open the folder you already know about I am not familiar with "classic" folders, but that probably involves the appearance of windows and not their paths.

Since as you point out the profile names are partially randomized, I can't give you the specific paths. You can associate:

OLD PROFILE FOLDER:

This is where you copy places.sqlite from.

CURRENT PROFILE FOLDER:

This is where you rename places.sqlite and remove the two journaling files if you find them. While Firefox is fully closed.

thank you!

jsher2000: That is exactly what is happening. The link addresses the issue, but doesn't solve my problem. Thank you for your time.

Make sure you install Firefox properly.

Open the Firefox Disk Images file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Images, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

You can check the default location for profiles via about:profiles and go up one level to see if there are multiple unregistered profiles present.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location.

Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/
