I go to the 'set up an existing email account', fill in my name, email address & password. Click on 'continue', but nothing happens. From here I can either select, 'cancel' or 'manual config' to move on. When I select 'manual config', and , click on 're-test' I see the message, Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what/if anything, I may be doing wrong?

Thank you very much for your help. There were a few changes that I had to make in order for the account to be setup and work. All very frustrating, especially when it's been so easy in the past.

I noticed in the Account details, Server Settings - that the full email address hadn't been inserted. It was missing the '@gmail.com' Also, under Security Settings - the Authentication Method needs to be 'OAuth2' and not 'normal password'.

However, it does work now and I again thank you for your help.

kind regards, Donald

When you say "a new gmail account", are you referring to a Gmail account that you just recently signed up for? Which version of Tbird are you running? Do you have other accounts that are working just fine on Tbird? Are you running any third-party security software (antivirus and/or firewall)?

I created a new Gmail account in another window prior to going to Thunderbird. I opened gmail in Google and was able to see my mail that I'd sent as a test. I'm using Thunderbird version 68.6.0 (32-bit). I have 8 other gmail accounts already in Thunderbird and I believe all are working. I'm not using any security software, but I do often (not always) use a VPN.

I just tried to add the account again into Thunderbird but there's still no response.

Check that new Gmail account's settings and make sure you have IMAP enabled then manually set the settings. See https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en for details.

You may also want to consider installing the 64-bit version of Thunderbird on your 64-bit Windows 10 PC.

Hi, Thank you. I followed your instructions and imap wasn't enabled. I don't understand why this has changed from all the other gmail accounts I have added, but that's a matter for another time.

It appears to work for the outgoing server but the incoming server still has a problem as shown in the image attached below. Any more ideas?

The screenshot shows it's worked for the incoming IMAP server. The outgoing SMTP server host name is incomplete. Write it in full as given on the webpage I linked to then choose the right port and security, or cancel that wizard and start over.
