I have been facing an issue ever since I upgraded to android 10, using Huawei mate 20x on emui 10. Now when I download an apk from the browser and tap on it, it gives me options to open the file using other programs. Meaning that, it doesn't recognise the file as being installable.

I have tried clearing system partition, and uninstall and install it again, giving it permission to install programs. Nothing worked. The weird thing that is my p30 running on the same os (emui10) works fine. Additionally, chrome on my phone is also able to install apps directly.

May I please know what might be the problem, I am currently using Firefox beta but the same thing it doesn't work. I have been told that Firefox preview works fine. However I need to install add ons, on my browser

You should be able to open the .apk file using the file manager app on your device or directly from the Google Play store.

That exactly what I don't want to do. I want to be able to install it as soon as it finishes. Otherwise, I am doing this already

Just to confirm, .apk are installing fine from the file manager, just not on immediate download in Firefox Preview?

I think that this may have been an issue that has since been resolved in Firefox Preview Nightly - I recomend you update and give it a try.
