On a regular basis the extensions I have installed for my Firefox browser uninstall. I do not do this personally, it happens automatically. The "uninstall surveys" tabs opens automatically aswell. Examples: "Facebook container", "Duckduckgo - provacy essentials" and "Ghostery".

Is this possible to fix?

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Delete all extensions* files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files":

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You will have to approve the updating one last time.

Profile data can be removed or not recorded in several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar,
    type about:preferences#privacy<enter>)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

Do these extensions get uninstalled while Firefox is running or only after closing and restarting Firefox or randomly ?

Do you have security software or external cleanup software that could be causing this issues ?

It's either when Firefox is restarting or when I have put the pc into sleep by closing the laptop and then opening it again later.

I have made sure to disable McAfee WebAdvisor. Other than that I just use Windows Defender.

Are you re-installing the add-ons, or do they return when firefox is restarted?

I have to re-install all my add-ons manually.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Reinstall your add-ons. After, Close Firefox.

Wait a bit for the browser to finish closing. Then open Firefox in Safe Mode again.

Is the problem still there?
